Climb to any place, slide or build cover plates: Population: One is supposed to establish Battle Royale in VR with this principle and provide a very unique, appealing feeling of exploration along the way.
The basics are already right - that is immediately noticeable: Matches ran smoothly and almost completely lag-free. The generic design soon doesn't seem very attractive and the restriction to only one mode is a bit strict. But in the game, the one-square-meter map proves to be a great playground for the principal. After six teams of three players each have jumped out of flying pods or off the platform, a dynamic fight for survival usually unfolds in the pleasantly characteristic areas.
Almost everywhere, there is a nice rhythm of rapid-fire battles and careful bridging of clearings. Times grab rich loot at the graveyard, deliver between barns and hay bales hair-sharp shootouts or move with swarming team past bridges and industrial plants. The coolest part of the game is the aforementioned options for exploring the map. Here, every building can be climbed with intuitive arm movements. This doesn't work quite as elegantly and sweepingly in the action as in Stormland, but there you also control an advanced android with magnetically attached hands.
Even the gigantic tower in the middle of the map is one of the buildings that can be climbed, which led to a surprisingly strong fear of heights and sweaty hands at times.
The arsenal without special attachments or the like looks rather meager compared to its predecessors. Here, only a few lead shots of a various rarity in typical categories like an assault rifle, SMG, or sniper rifle are waiting on the map. Correspondingly color-coded ammunition is also included.
CONCLUSION
The generic design and mobile-friendly graphics don't exactly win a beauty prize - especially since the scope, arsenal, and variety also clearly fall short of classic role models like Blackout. However, developer BigBox VR has come up with a great mix in the context of the one-square-kilometer map with 18 players! Above all, the free exploration makes for an exciting fight for survival, as you can climb every building with intuitive arm movements and then cross the adjacent clearing with a quick glide. Scavenging, climbing, gliding, reloading with your own hands, and building up small walls of cover all blend so smoothly and neatly together that the gunfights feel much more dynamic and immersive than on the monitor! This is also due to the map with its winding, characteristic areas and the tower towering above everything. In addition, the cleanly implemented crossplay almost always ensures full servers (including cross-system friends and invites).
